What is GST Calculator — India GST Tax Calculator (CGST, SGST, IGST)?

A GST (Goods and Services Tax) calculator computes tax amounts for India's unified tax system, calculating GST to add to base prices or GST included in final prices. With tax slabs at 5%, 12%, 18%, and 28%, plus special rates for specific goods and services, this calculator handles all GST calculations including CGST (Central GST), SGST (State GST), and IGST (Integrated GST) for inter-state transactions. Essential for businesses preparing invoices, consumers verifying bills, accountants managing tax compliance, and anyone needing quick GST calculations for financial planning or price comparisons.

Key Benefits & Use Cases

Ensure accurate invoicing and tax compliance for businesses by calculating correct GST amounts for all transactions, avoiding errors that lead to penalties or customer disputes. Understand true product costs by separating GST from prices—know the base price before tax to compare vendor offers accurately. Verify restaurant bills, shopping receipts, and service invoices for correct GST charges, protecting yourself from overcharging errors. Plan business finances by understanding tax liability on revenue, calculating input tax credits, and forecasting cash flow with GST obligations. Simplifies India's complex multi-rate GST system into instant, accurate calculations used by millions of businesses and consumers daily.

How to Use This Calculator

Select whether you want to add GST to a base price or extract GST from a final price. Enter the amount and select the applicable GST rate (5% for essential goods, 12% for standard goods, 18% for most services and products, 28% for luxury items). Click calculate to see the GST amount, CGST and SGST components (for intra-state) or IGST (for inter-state), and final price. For business invoices, use the "Add GST" mode with base price. For consumer verification, use "Remove GST" mode with the final bill amount. Keep updated with GST rate changes for specific product categories as rates occasionally adjust per government policy.

How to Use This Calculator

The GST (Goods and Services Tax) calculator helps businesses and consumers calculate tax amounts in countries using GST systems (India, Australia, Canada, Singapore, etc.). Select your country to use the correct GST rate, or enter a custom rate. Choose your calculation mode: "Add GST" to calculate the total price including tax from a base price, or "Remove GST" to find the original price before tax from a tax-inclusive amount. Enter the amount and click calculate. For businesses, use this to generate accurate invoices, calculate input tax credits, reconcile sales reports, and ensure compliance with tax regulations. The calculator shows the base amount, GST amount, and total, which you can use directly on invoices and receipts.

How It's Calculated

GST calculations work by applying the tax rate percentage to the base price. When removing GST from an inclusive price, we reverse the formula to extract the original amount.

GST Amount = Base Price × (GST Rate / 100) | Inclusive Price = Base + GST

Where:

  • Base Price= Price before GST
  • GST Rate= Tax percentage (e.g., 18% in India, 10% in Australia)
  • GST Amount= Tax amount in currency
  • Inclusive Price= Final price including GST

Worked Example

Scenario: Priya runs an e-commerce business in India selling products at ₹5,000 base price. She needs to add 18% GST to create the invoice price. Later, she receives a purchase receipt for ₹11,800 (GST inclusive) and needs to extract the GST for input credit.

Given Values:

Scenario 1: Base Price
₹5,000
GST Rate
18%
Scenario 2: Inclusive Price
₹11,800

Calculation:

Adding GST: GST Amount = ₹5,000 × 0.18 = ₹900
Invoice total = ₹5,000 + ₹900 = ₹5,900
Removing GST: Base = ₹11,800 / 1.18 = ₹10,000
GST in purchase = ₹11,800 - ₹10,000 = ₹1,800

Result: For her sale, Priya invoices ₹5,900 (₹5,000 + ₹900 GST). For her purchase, the ₹11,800 receipt contains ₹10,000 base value and ₹1,800 GST, which she can claim as input tax credit against her GST liability.
